Standardized alerts from any CAP feed.
Connect any Common Alerting Protocol compliant feed to your digital signage network. Receive weather warnings, public safety alerts, and hazard notifications in a standardized format that your screens understand automatically.
The universal language of emergency alerts
The Common Alerting Protocol is an international standard for exchanging emergency alerts across different systems and platforms. The Hangar.Media CAP integration subscribes to any CAP-compliant feed and automatically parses alert severity, urgency, certainty, and geographic scope to display the right information on the right screens at the right time.
What you can do with any CAP feed.
Three capabilities that make this integration essential for your digital signage network.
Connect any CAP source
Point Hangar.Media at any CAP-compliant feed URL and the system begins polling for alerts. Government weather services, seismic monitoring agencies, and public safety organizations worldwide publish CAP feeds that this integration can consume directly.
We subscribe to three different CAP feeds and alerts from all of them appear on our screens automatically.
Support for ATOM, RSS, and direct XML CAP feed formats
Adjustable polling intervals from 10 seconds to 5 minutes
Feed health monitoring with failure notifications
Alerts match their urgency visually
CAP alerts include severity, urgency, and certainty fields. Hangar.Media maps these to visual templates automatically. Extreme alerts trigger full-screen overrides in red, moderate alerts appear as banners, and minor alerts show as ticker notifications.
Extreme weather warnings take over screens while minor advisories scroll quietly in the ticker.
Automatic visual escalation based on CAP severity levels
Adjustable thresholds for full override versus banner versus ticker
Urgency and certainty factored into display priority
Location-relevant alerts only
CAP alerts include geographic scope data using polygon coordinates, geocodes, or named areas. Hangar.Media filters incoming alerts against your screen locations and only displays alerts that affect the geographic area where each screen is installed.
Our Chicago screens only show alerts for Cook County, not the entire state feed.
Polygon and geocode-based geographic matching
Per-screen location setup for accurate filtering
Regional grouping for multi-site networks
Four steps to connected screens.
From setup to live content in minutes, not days.
Add a CAP feed URL
Enter the URL of any CAP-compliant alert feed in the Hangar.Media integration settings. The system validates the feed format automatically.
Set geographic boundaries
Define the geographic areas for your screen locations so alerts are filtered to only show warnings relevant to each site.
Set up severity mapping
Review and customize how CAP severity levels map to screen behaviors. Set which levels trigger overrides, banners, or ticker messages.
Activate monitoring
Enable the feed and Hangar.Media begins polling. Alerts that match your geographic and severity criteria appear on screens automatically.
Built for every sector.
See how different industries use this integration to drive results.
Government building alert compliance
Government facilities subscribe to national weather service CAP feeds to display severe weather warnings and public safety alerts on building screens as required by safety regulations.
EducationCampus weather warning displays
Universities subscribe to local CAP feeds so campus screens automatically display tornado warnings, flash flood alerts, and other severe weather notifications relevant to the campus area.
HealthcareHospital hazard notifications
Hospitals ingest CAP feeds to display hazardous material alerts, air quality warnings, and other environmental hazards on screens in emergency departments and public areas.
CorporateMulti-site severe weather alerts
Companies with offices in multiple regions subscribe to regional CAP feeds so each location only sees weather and safety alerts relevant to its geographic area.
Common questions. Straight answers.
What version of CAP is supported
Hangar.Media supports CAP version 1.2, which is the current OASIS standard. Earlier versions including CAP 1.1 and CAP 1.0 are also supported with automatic format detection and conversion.
Can I subscribe to multiple CAP feeds simultaneously
Yes. You can add as many CAP feed URLs as needed. Each feed is polled independently and alerts from all feeds are processed through the same severity mapping and geographic filtering rules.
How does geographic filtering work
You define the geographic location of each screen or screen group using coordinates or postal codes. When a CAP alert arrives with geographic scope data, Hangar.Media checks if any of your screen locations fall within the alert area and only displays it on affected screens.
What happens when a CAP alert expires
CAP alerts include expiration timestamps. When an alert expires, Hangar.Media automatically removes it from screens and resumes normal content. You can also manually dismiss alerts before their expiration time.
One price. The whole platform.
