FEMA alerts directly on your screens.
Connect to the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System to receive and display federally issued emergency alerts. From presidential alerts to AMBER warnings, keep your facility informed through your existing signage network.
Federal emergency alerts on your digital signage
IPAWS is the federal system used to distribute emergency alerts across the United States. By connecting Hangar.Media to IPAWS-compatible feeds, your signage network can receive and display Wireless Emergency Alerts, Emergency Alert System messages, and AMBER alerts. This ensures your facility occupants receive the same critical warnings delivered to mobile phones and broadcast media.
What you can do with directly on your screens.
Three capabilities that make this integration essential for your digital signage network.
Every federal alert category covered
IPAWS distributes multiple alert types including presidential alerts, imminent threat warnings, AMBER alerts, and public safety messages. Hangar.Media categorizes each incoming alert and applies the appropriate visual template, priority level, and display duration based on its type.
AMBER alerts display with the distinctive amber styling so they are immediately recognizable.
Presidential, imminent threat, and AMBER alert support
Automatic template assignment by alert category
Adjustable display duration per alert type
Location-precise alert delivery
IPAWS alerts include FIPS county codes and SAME area codes that define the affected geography. Hangar.Media matches these codes against your screen locations to ensure only relevant alerts reach each facility. A tornado warning for one county will not appear on screens in an unaffected neighboring county.
Only alerts for our exact county appear on screens, which prevents unnecessary alarm at other sites.
FIPS county code and SAME area code matching
Multi-county and state-level alert support
Per-site FIPS code setup in the dashboard
Meet regulatory alert requirements
Certain facility types are required to display federal emergency alerts. The IPAWS integration provides the technical infrastructure to meet these requirements using your existing digital signage network rather than installing separate alerting hardware.
Our digital signage now doubles as our emergency notification system for compliance purposes.
Audit logs documenting alert receipt and display times
Adjustable alert acknowledgment workflows
Integration with facility emergency action plans
Four steps to connected screens.
From setup to live content in minutes, not days.
Register your FIPS codes
Enter the FIPS county codes for each of your screen locations so alerts are geographically filtered to the correct facilities.
Connect to IPAWS feed
Set up the IPAWS-compatible alert feed connection in the Hangar.Media dashboard. The system validates connectivity and begins monitoring.
Map alert types to templates
Review the default visual templates for each alert category and customize messaging, colors, and instructions for your facility context.
Test with IPAWS sandbox
Use the IPAWS testing environment to send test alerts and verify that your screens display them correctly before going live.
Built for every sector.
See how different industries use this integration to drive results.
Campus federal alert compliance
Colleges and universities display IPAWS alerts on campus screens to comply with Clery Act requirements and ensure students receive critical federal emergency warnings while on campus.
PublicGovernment building alert distribution
Federal and state government buildings use IPAWS-connected signage to ensure employees and visitors receive official emergency communications including presidential and civil alerts.
HealthcareHospital emergency preparedness
Hospitals display IPAWS weather and civil emergency alerts on staff-facing screens so clinical teams can prepare for incoming patients from severe weather events or mass casualty incidents.
CorporateMulti-site federal alert awareness
National companies with facilities across many states use IPAWS integration to ensure each location receives and displays only the federal alerts relevant to its specific county.
Common questions. Straight answers.
Do I need a direct IPAWS connection from FEMA
No. Hangar.Media connects to IPAWS-compatible public alert feeds that redistribute federal alerts in CAP format. You do not need to register as an IPAWS alerting authority to receive and display alerts.
Are AMBER alerts supported
Yes. AMBER alerts distributed through IPAWS are received and displayed with their distinctive visual styling. They appear on screens in the affected geographic area based on FIPS code matching.
Can I filter out certain alert types
Yes. You can choose which alert categories trigger screen overrides. For example, you might override for imminent threats and AMBER alerts but display weather watches as lower-priority ticker notifications.
How does this differ from the CAP Protocol integration
The CAP Protocol integration is a general-purpose connector for any CAP feed. The IPAWS integration is specifically optimized for United States federal alert feeds with built-in FIPS code targeting, IPAWS-specific alert categories, and compliance logging features.
