Screens that know when you are nearby.
Place Bluetooth Low Energy beacons around your venue and let screens change content based on who is nearby. Deliver personalized, location-aware messaging without any visitor interaction required.
Location-aware content, automatically delivered
The Beacon Technology integration uses Bluetooth Low Energy beacons placed throughout your venue to detect when visitors with the companion app or BLE-enabled devices are near specific screens. Screens respond by displaying targeted content: welcome messages for VIP guests, wayfinding assistance near entrances, or promotional offers near product displays. Beacons also push notifications to visitor phones with relevant information.
What you can do with when you are nearby.
Three capabilities that make this integration essential for your digital signage network.
Content changes by proximity
Define proximity zones around each beacon and assign content rules. When a visitor enters the near zone at 1 to 3 meters, the screen displays a welcome message. In the far zone at 5 to 10 meters, it shows a general promotional banner. Exiting the zone returns the screen to default content.
VIP guests see a personalized welcome on the lobby screen before they even reach reception.

Notifications on visitor phones
When visitors with the companion app enter a beacon zone, they receive a push notification with relevant information: a welcome message, a special offer, a wayfinding tip, or a link to a mobile landing page. This extends the signage experience from the screen to the pocket.
Conference attendees get session reminders pushed to their phone as they walk past each session room.

Map visitor movement patterns
Beacon detection data aggregates into venue heatmaps showing where visitors spend the most time, which paths they follow, and how long they dwell in each area. Use this data to optimize screen placement, content relevance, and venue layout.
The heatmap revealed visitors spend twice as long in the east wing so we added more screens there.

Install beacons at key locations
Mount BLE beacons near screens, at entrances, near products, and at other points of interest. Battery-powered beacons stick to any surface with adhesive.
Define proximity zones
Map each beacon to a proximity zone in the Hangar.Media dashboard. Set near, mid, and far zone distances based on your venue layout.
Assign content rules
Set up what screen content displays and what mobile notifications send when visitors enter each proximity zone.
Analyze and optimize
Review visitor flow heatmaps and zone dwell time analytics to refine beacon placement and content targeting strategies.
Built for every sector.
See how different industries use this integration to drive results.
Personalized in-store promotions
Retailers place beacons near product categories so screens display relevant promotions when loyalty app users browse nearby aisles, and push exclusive offers to their phones.
EntertainmentConference session guidance
Conference venues use beacons to push session reminders to attendee phones as they approach session rooms and display speaker introductions on nearby screens.
HospitalityHotel guest recognition
Hotels use beacons to detect when returning guests approach the lobby and display personalized welcome messages on reception screens before they reach the front desk.
HealthcarePatient wayfinding assistance
Hospitals place beacons at corridor junctions so screens display directional guidance for patients with upcoming appointments as they navigate the building.
Common questions. Straight answers.
Do visitors need an app to interact with beacons
For mobile push notifications, visitors need a companion app or a web app with BLE support. However, screen content changes triggered by beacon detection can work without any visitor device if the Hangar.Media player itself detects the beacons.
How long do beacon batteries last
Most BLE beacons operate for 3 to 5 years on a single coin cell battery. Battery life depends on the broadcasting interval and transmission power. Hangar.Media monitors battery levels and alerts you when replacement is needed.
What is the range of a BLE beacon
Typical BLE beacons have a range of up to 30 meters in open space. Indoor range varies based on obstacles, walls, and interference. For proximity-triggered content, effective zones are usually set within 1 to 10 meters.
Can I use beacons from any manufacturer
Yes. Hangar.Media supports iBeacon and Eddystone protocols, which are compatible with beacons from Estimote, Kontakt.io, Gimbal, RadiusNetworks, and most other manufacturers.
